The Campbell University School of Pharmacy was founded in 1985. As part of its mission, the Drug Information Center (DIC) was established the following year. The DIC is located in the Carrie Rich Memorial Library on the campus of Campbell University, Buies Creek, North Carolina. To view the DIC brochure, click here.
The DIC has the following mandates:
To serve the health professions community by answering drug-related questions;
To provide a learning center for pharmacy students in drug information skills;
To aid in the promotion of the pharmacy school by offering drug information services throughout the state;
To promote the profession of pharmacy;
To offer post-graduate residency training in drug information.
ServicesMost of the drug information services offered by the DIC are provided free of charge. These services include:
Provision of drug information and supporting documentation to questions posed by healthcare practitioners;
Provision of consultative services in the areas of quality assurance programs, adverse drug-reaction reporting, formulary management and education seminars;
Participation in pharmacy-related research.
ProcessAll inquiries to the DIC are documented and responses are indexed and filed. When contacting the DIC, the following information is requested:
Inquirer's name, title, affiliation, and contact information;
Actual question;
Background information which may be beneficial (e.g., how long the patient has been receiving the medication, etc.); and,
When the verbal/written response is needed.
Quality AssuranceA quality assurance program has been developed to ensure consistent and accurate service. The Educational Resources Committee of the School of Pharmacy is the advisory board for the Drug Information Center.
PersonnelThe Director of the Drug Information Center is Connie Lee Barnes, Pharm.D. Dr. Barnes received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Campbell University School of Pharmacy and then completed a specialized residency in drug information.
The Associate Director of the Drug Information Center is Valerie B. Clinard, Pharm.D. Dr. Clinard received her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She then completed a Community Care Pharmacy Practice Residency with Campbell University and Kerr Drug.
Dr. Barnes and Dr. Clinard are assisted by drug information residents, senior pharmacy students and an administrative assistant. Faculty within the School of Pharmacy provides additional specialty area support for the Center.
