The PREP Program operates with a rolling admissions system so qualified applicants are admitted on an ongoing basis until 50 students are chosen. We highly encourage students to complete the application sooner so as to ensure a spot in PREP 2010!
What is PREP?
PREP is a program designed to prepare motivated underrepresented minority and/or disadvantaged students for the rigors of admission into the professional School of Pharmacy.
It offers an intensive week long summer curriculum providing excellent educational opportunities for students interested in potential careers in the pharmaceutical industry.
PREP Components
PREP prepares students for the rigorous Pharmacy School admissions process by offering the following:
Intensive PCAT preparation
Scientific review
Exposure to professionals in various fields of pharmacy
Educational seminars
Mentoring opportunities with CUSOP Faculty, Staff and Students
PREP Benefits
Proven track record of students maximizing and increasing their potential on the PCAT
Exposure to professionals in various fields of pharmacy
Interactions with pharmacy faculty, staff and students
Full PREP Scholarship
PREP Scholarship
Candidates selected to participate will be granted full scholarships to the Summer Capstone. Scholarship awards include costs of:
PCAT review course
Educational materials and books
Instructional fees
Meals
Housing
PREP Instruction
Students will engage in higher levels of Biology, General Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry which simulates the pace of graduate course work.
Students will participate in classes/seminars designed to enhance verbal ability, quantitative ability, reading comprehension, and writing skills.
Students will be challenged in the areas of critical thinking, crisis prevention, and PCAT content.
Students will be able to assess knowledge by taking pre-test, practice tests, and post-tests
PREP Recruitment
Highly qualified undergraduate/post graduate underrepresented minority and/or disadvantaged students in the field of science are selected to participate. Preference is granted to North Carolina residents. The program will enroll 30-50 students.
Instructors and academic advisors are encouraged to recommend top students who meet PREP requirements and recommended prerequisites.
PREP Requirements
A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale is recommended for realistic consideration. Students must submit all information required from the application packet. Students who have submitted applications to professional and/or graduate schools are invited to apply along with a submission statement explaining why PREP would be beneficial to them.
PREP Recommended Courses
Successful candidates will have completed at least 30 semester hours and have excelled in a majority of the following recommended courses: Calculus, Physics, Anatomy/Physiology, General Chemistry I & II, Organic Chemistry, General Biology, Microbiology, Immunology, Cell Biology, or Biochemistry
